Dance Floors Celebrate Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton died August 25 in Nashville at 80 after a brief battle with cancer. The dance world answered immediately. Galantis, who scored a number-one electronic hit with her, posted that no one inspired them more. Kelly Lee Owens and Optimo paid tribute. Jolene has been a floor record for years, in original form and in the edits that keep turning up in disco and house bags. That is the connection that matters here. A country writer whose songs survived every format change because the writing was strong enough to carry a room. The catalogues stay. The edits will keep coming.
Amnesia Marks 50 Years With Print and a 50-Track Compilation
Mixmag is back on paper for the first time since 2020. The Amnesia Special Pocket Edition dropped this week as a free fanzine at the club’s Info Point, with interviews, archive photos, and pieces on queer nightlife, podium culture, and Alfredo’s Balearic line through his son Jaime Fiorito. That sits next to the bigger catalogue move: 50 Years Dancing, a 50-track set chosen by longtime resident Les Schmitz, the Amnesia team, and N.E.W.S., due September 4 as a 10-vinyl box and 5-CD edition. Donna Summer, Laurent Garnier, DJ Koze, Robert Miles, and Eric Prydz are on the list. The point is not nostalgia for its own sake. It is a club that opened in 1976 still arguing that the room, the records, and the people who stayed are the story.
The Shapeshifters Drop On The Way Up With 79.5
Simon Marlin put out On The Way Up on Glitterbox on August 21 with New York duo 79.5. Real voices, real horns, no shortcut. The extended mix runs just under six minutes and has already been road-tested in Croatia and Ibiza before the official date. Spotify UK slotted it into the Discoland playlist within days. This is the same camp that gave dance floors Lola’s Theme and has never stopped treating house as a living arrangement rather than a museum piece. If you play rooms that still want lift without cheap peak-time tricks, this is the record from the last week that earns the extra pass.

Inner City feat. Steffanie Christi’an - Turn Me On (Glitterbox Recordings). Released August 14. Kevin Saunderson’s camp still writing proper vocal house. Extended mix is six minutes at 125. Charted immediately with The Shapeshifters and Saunderson himself.
Hotmood - Hotmood & Friends #7 (Discoweey). Mid-August nu-disco package from Guillermo Gonzalez Santana’s Playa del Carmen imprint. Disco, house, and rare-groove lean. Bandcamp first.

Flying Mojito Bros full Bandcamp. The Swamp Fox and the Refrito series are the most honest current take on 70s source material with a dance-floor edge. Play the records, then decide.
Hotmood kept the Discoweey lane moving. Friends #7 plus the newer Back In The Day cut gives FlashDance a contemporary nu-disco sheen. This same week, Mango Bros landed Marabou on Cruise Music (August 18).
Disco Tech’s Universal Love Reworks package is still sitting on Bandcamp and still useful for dance floors worldwide. Rework plus dubs. Fulfilling the edit-culture job: take a known feeling, tighten the drum, leave the soul in place.
Dusty Donuts 45s out of Hamburg remains a working edit shop. The catalogue is 7-inch culture, jazz flips, and floor edits you can actually mix. Start at the Bandcamp and work backwards through the black-label series.
Horse Meat Disco is on the island this week. Amnesia on August 28, then Lisbon on the 29th, then London. The Mr Bongo compilation Disco & Boogie From Brazil Vol. 1 is the listening homework if you want to hear how they source. Jorge Ben, Marcos Valle, Lincoln Olivetti & Robson Jorge, Zé Carlos. Not a new drop this week. Still the right crate for this show.
Angelo Ferreri and Roller Funk’s I Feel For You is still circulating hard in the Nu Disco / Indie Dance charts. Adri Block’s Hypnotize (Ultra Boogie Dubb) is another good one to look out for as well.

Jayda G’s new Essential Mix is on BBC Radio 1 Dance this week. She is a Glitterbox regular and a selector who still builds rooms with disco, house, and patience. Useful listening before the Wednesday shows.
