Apple Labels AI Music. Soundcloud opens direct sales

Apple Music Will Label AI Tracks - If Labels Tell the Truth

Apple Music told partners on August 20 that songs "materially generated" on platforms like Suno will carry a visible Made With AI mark later this year. The catch is built in. Apple is not running detection for the public label. Labels and distributors have to tag the file first. Oliver Schusser already said more than a third of tracks submitted to the service each month are fully AI-generated, while actual listening stays under half a percent. Spotify has AI Persona tags. Tidal labels AI and withholds royalties. ARIA just barred wholly AI tracks from the Australian charts. For anyone who still buys records and programs a show by ear, the useful part is simple: the flood is real, the listening is not, and the honor system will not catch the people who do not want to be caught.

SoundCloud Opens Direct Sales and Takes No Cut

SoundCloud started a U.S. beta on August 26 that lets about 200 Artist Pro accounts sell MP3 and WAV files straight from their profiles. Price is set by the artist. SoundCloud takes zero commission. Processing fees and tax still come out. The wider rollout is slated for autumn. The company says 250,000 artists already push 2.4 million tracks off-platform to buy pages, and half a million users get sent away each year. Bandcamp still takes 10 to 15 percent. Beatport pays artists roughly half to two-thirds. This is not a replacement for a proper label shop. It is a cleaner pipe for people who already live on SoundCloud and want the download money to stay in the same room as the stream.

United Adds the First Nonstop U.S. Flight to Ibiza

United announced this week that Newark to Ibiza starts May 31, 2027, four times a week on an A321XLR. No Madrid. No Barcelona. No Heathrow scramble with a USB stick in the carry-on. DJ Mag carried it August 27. For East Coast selectors who already treat the island as seasonal work, the route is logistics, not romance. The same expansion adds Valencia, Marseille, Olbia, and Catania. Closing-week traffic at Amnesia, Ushuaia, Hï, and DC-10 just got a shorter line from New Jersey. Book it when the fares appear. Do not pretend the layover was part of the culture.

// House Releases Worth Noting

Wave Wave - Money Talks EP (Diynamic). Out August 21. Title cut plus Surrender and a Greggio collab, Bvlgari. Melodic house with enough low-end to hold a late set. Station-default label, this week's drop, no extra press cycle required.

Travis Holcombe - FREAKS ONLY Eskimo Selects (2014-2026) (Eskimo Recordings). Out August 19 as part of the Ghent label's 25th-year run. Eskimo has always treated indie dance, synth-pop, and left-field house as one crate. This select covers the second half of the catalogue. Bandcamp and Beatport both carry it.

The Watergirls - The Whole of the Moon (DFA).

This is the record the week actually belongs to. Friends of the late Keith McIvor - JD Twitch of Optimo - cut a seven-minute cover of the Waterboys song as a private tribute after his 2025 diagnosis. It was not meant to come out. It did, because holding it started to feel wrong. Teamy started it. Mhairi McClymont sings. Bob Weston is on bass. CC:DISCO! and Fantastic Twins on backing vocals. James Murphy takes the Bowie turn on the bridge. Pearl M Wong, Mary Kiani, and Pablo Morales produced. Hardway Bros - Sean Johnston of A Love From Outer Space - filed two remixes. Digital is up now. White-label 12-inch and the full digital package land October 2. All proceeds go to Beatson Cancer Charity and the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence. First and last Watergirls record. Play it out. That is what they asked for.

LCD Soundsystem closed Just Like Heaven in Pasadena on August 22 with The Strokes holding the other end of the bill.

The summer run is still live. Oregon reviews logged a new song, x-ray eyes, from the long-teased fifth album. Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney, and Tyler Pope are in the band. Remaining headline dates: September 9 at Thompson's Point in Portland, Maine; September 10-12 at College Street Music Hall in New Haven; September 17 at Hellbenders by The Orange Peel in Asheville; September 20 at Shaky Knees in Atlanta. Victoryland opens the headline shows. No new album date. The live song is the news.

Fundido feat. Emma Dufaux - Get A Grip remains the working DFA 12-inch from this year.

Brooklyn duo Latane Hughes and Billy Scher, produced with Miles Felix, mastered by Bob Weston. Original, Bliss Mix, Make A Dance Remix, Asa Tate Remix. Four-on-the-floor with a vocal that sits. The Make A Dance version is the one that turns a Thursday room. Vinyl and full digital are out. Play the package, not just the edit.

The Rapture's In The Grace of Your Love double LP repress is back on shelves after 15 years.

That 2011 record still explains a lot of what Factory Floor is for.

New Order confirmed South America for late 2026

November 23 and 25 at Espaco Unimed in Sao Paulo; November 28 at Fauna Primavera in Santiago; December 1 at Mandarine Park in Buenos Aires; December 5 at Veltrac Music Festival in Lima; December 9 at Movistar Arena in Bogota. Peter Hook and The Light are in Toronto tonight, August 27, at History, playing Get Ready in full plus Joy Division and New Order staples. Pet Shop Boys closed the 2026 Dreamworld summer on August 22 at Suset Festival in Esbjerg after Oslo on the 20th.

Mermaid Chunky - slif slaf slof. The current DFA oddballs James Murphy signed after hearing them in a coffee shop. Folk, house, and psych-pop that still kicks. Céilí is the floor cut. They play Smugglers Festival in Deal August 28-30.

Make A Dance - Mixmag Lab London. Nearly an hour of house, disco, and Italo from the same camp that remixed Get A Grip. Useful reference before a Thursday rundown.

FREAKS ONLY Eskimo Selects (2014-2026). Travis Holcombe's cut through Eskimo's second decade. Indie dance crate with a spine.

Hiroko Yamamura - Techno DJ Set for SECTION, August 2026. Chicago lifer. Medusa's at sixteen, Wax Trax industrial in the blood, then house, acid, Planet E, Trax, smartbar, Movement, Berghain. This set is the line from industrial post-punk rooms to jacking Chicago floors. Moody, precise, no fat. Watch it if you still think those two worlds were ever separate.

Perc b2b Randomer - Full Live Set at Radius, Chicago, July 18, 2026. Posted August 24. Two UK techno heads in a purpose-built Chicago room. Harder than Factory Floor's center of gravity, useful as contrast. Watch the pacing when the kick stays and the arrangement does the work.

The Story of Ricardo Villalobos - Voltage Labs. Origins in Chile and Germany, Playhouse and Perlon, then the long sets at Robert Johnson, Fabric, Club der Visionäre, DC-10. Minimal as patience, not as a genre tag. Homework for anyone who programs a Thursday night and still believes a record can unfold for twelve minutes without apology.

ReBirth RB-338 on Apple Silicon. Autodafe walks the original 1997 Propellerhead box - two 303s, an 808, a 909 - onto a current Mac via Wine. That software trained a generation of acid and machine-funk records this show still leans on. If the hardware is in a closet and you want the same box on a laptop, this is the install path that actually works.

LaVonda Rocks posted Everything DJs Need to Know About YouTube Copyright (2027 Rules) on August 24. Content ID versus a block versus a strike. How to run an unlisted test upload before you waste a full mix. Watch hours for monetization jump from 4,000 to 8,000 in February 2027. Mixes still function as an EPK. Promoters search.
