Ibiza hostility towards new clubs; AI goes full vinyl

August 10 – 14, 2026:A short stretch marked by a tragic note from the UK festival circuit, ongoing questions about the future of club infrastructure on one of dance music’s most important islands, and a new flashpoint in the AI-music debate as generative platforms move into physical formats.

CULTURE & CONTEXT

Ibiza Advances Plans to Freeze New Nightclub Licenses

Ibiza’s Consell d’Eivissa is moving forward with proposals that would formalize an island-wide ban on new nightclub licenses under the Tourism Areas Intervention Plan. Most municipalities already restrict new venues; the measure would extend that approach across the island while leaving every existing licensed club unaffected. Officials described the goal as containing current nightlife capacity rather than reducing it, noting that legal clubs remain central to the island’s identity, economy and employment. The plans remain under discussion but signal a clear long-term stance on growth.

Houghton Festival Confirms Death of Attendee

Houghton Festival organisers and Norfolk Constabulary confirmed that a woman was found unconscious in a tent on the final day of the 2026 edition and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The boutique 24-hour house and techno event, held on the grounds of Houghton Hall, drew its usual capacity of around 10,000. Police described the death as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious; next of kin have been informed and inquiries continue. The festival issued a short statement expressing deep sadness and solidarity with the family while thanking on-site medical and response teams.

Suno Launches Service to Press AI-Generated Music onto Vinyl

AI music platform Suno has opened a waitlist for Suno Vinyl, a service that lets users compile tracks from their library into a custom 12-inch record (up to 46 minutes), add artwork, and have a physical pressing shipped. Pricing is listed around $45 plus shipping, with the discs made from PETG material the company describes as eco-friendly. The move arrives while Suno continues to face copyright disputes over training data and comes shortly after platforms such as Beatport clarified stricter rules on fully AI-generated tracks. It marks another intersection between generative tools and the physical formats still valued by many in the dance community.
